Mandare ndare & "Tapera"

I noticed you started to post lessons, and I was wondering if you knew a tune I have on an old Ephat Mujuru CD called Mandare ndare. You can hear a clip at Amazon:

Do you know the kutsinhira? By transcribing the full song, I've figured out what more or less what he's playing throughout most of his variations, but I'm assuming that's the kushaura (and not a solo version). It would be great to pair with a kutsinhira!

It seems deceptively simple but the rhythms were unusual for me and just made my head spin for a day, as I tried to learn it. I haven't had to do this much relearning in my fingers in a long time, and I really am liking the song more and more. By the way this song is different from the song of the same name on Forward Kwenda's Svikiro album (Mandarendare), which is also very beautiful.

And while I'm asking, I've wondered what song it is that Stella Chiweshe has dubbed "Tapera". Here is a sample:

It sounds like it might be Todzungaira (because of its length), but the version and tuning are throwing me off. Sorry to be such a clueless beginner, but I really love that song. Any ideas what it is, and does anyone know that version?

I admit I've been a little neglectful on the matepe side and have been recently trying to play more again; I'd been meaning to do a short video on the tuning I and apparently some other people have, for Kanotamba Mubani (to both check my transcription, and if showing it on that tuning is helpful for others), and that's still a goal. I definitely went through a good few months where I played matepe exclusively, but now I'm on the other side of the pendulum these days. I have to play both :)

OK here's my attempted transcription-by-ear of Ephat Mujuru's Mandare ndare. The right index has a lot of consecutive low-high-low notes that are difficult to me, I was tempted to cheat with my right thumb.

Anyways here's the video, and if anyone is interested, I can post notation. Again, corrections (and kutsinhira) are welcome!

Hi Robert,
The link you posted sounds a lot like Mandare Ndare is a version of Shumba. Watching your video, I'm thinking he is playing it in a different tuning (like mavembe?) and so the transcription is more difficult?

And, yes tapere is indeed Todzungaira (or Hondo or Nehanda, etc).

I think that is one of Dan Pauli's low tuned mbiras, but not positive.
With love and gratitude,
